After Centre's notice the Tamil Nadu goverment reversed the 100 per cent occupancy order in ci halls but on the otther hand the chief minister Mamata Banerjee allowed 100% occupancy in cinema halls during the week-long Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), which was inaugurated on Friday.“I would urge cinema hall owners to ensure that people wear face masks and use hand sanitizers. Sanitization should be done after every show. Every audience should carry his own sanitizer or a tissue paper. Now-a-days you also get machines with which you can sanitize the entire hall in just five minutes,” she added. She also urged the authorities to put up LED screens outside the cinema halls so that more people can see without entering any closed spaces such as cinema halls and theatres, where chances of infection are more.
The current set of "unlock" guidelines, issued by the MHA, meant to allow a phased resumption of pre-Covid social and economic life - are in place till January 31. The Bengal Chief Minister's decision to act in contradiction to the centre's rules will likely become another battleground between the Trinamool and the BJP ahead of Assembly polls in a few months.
